Dr. Frank R. Noyes, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and other orthopaedic problems, is an internationally recognized authority on the diagnosis and treatment of complex knee problems. Dr. Noyes completed his training at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He then received a four-year clinical and research appointment as an orthopaedic surgeon in the United States Air Force, was commissioned as a Lieutenant Colonel, and began his landmark research into knee ligament injuries, effects of immobility, biomechanics, injury prevention, and diagnosis and treatment of serious knee disorders.

In 1975, Dr. Noyes joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati and started Cincinnati¹s first sports medicine program. He also established the Noyes-Giannestras Biomechanics Laboratories within the University of Cincinnati College of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. Today, he is a clinical professor with the school¹s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and an adjunct professor with the Department of Biomedical Engineering. These Laboratories have received national and international awards for outstanding research. In 1981, Dr. Noyes founded the Cincinnati Sportsmedicine and Orthopaedic Center.

Patients from as far as Greece, the Middle East, Europe and South America or as close as Cincinnati have sought Dr. Noyes¹ specialized care. Whether he is treating a professional or recreational athlete, an injured worker, a high school student, or an older adult, all patients receive the same care, compassion and expertise. Patient satisfaction is always Dr. Noyes¹ number one goal. For this philosophy, Dr. Noyes was recognized by Town and Country magazine and Best Doctors in America Reference Guide as one of the nation¹s outstanding physicians.

Committed to physician education, Dr. Noyes established one of the first sports medicine fellowship programs in the United States. Over 100 orthopaedic surgeons have graduated from the program and practice orthopaedics at some of the nation¹s top institutions. Dr. Noyes has been an invited professor at universities across the U.S. and the featured speaker at orthopaedic society seminars and academic meetings around the world. In addition, Dr. Noyes is frequently consulted and quoted by the media including The Washington Post, The New York Times, USA Today, Ladies Home Journal, US News & World Report, and Sports Illustrated.

A prolific researcher and writer, Dr. Noyes has published over 200 studies and articles in the world¹s leading orthopaedic journals and textbooks, changing the face of sports medicine and orthopaedics as we know it. He serves on a variety of editorial review boards and is a manuscript reviewer for several highly respected journals. Among many research projects he is leading at Cincinnati Sportsmedicine, Dr. Noyes is studying the prevention of knee injuries in female athletes, refining the surgical procedure to reconstruct the posterior cruciate ligament, developing treatment options for young patients with a damaged meniscus, repairing and transplanting articular cartilage in the knee, and improving the outcome for patients who require revision knee ligament surgery.
